How will we use donations?

Your contribution is tax-deductible

Our overarching purpose is to lessen climate change.

We will have three mechanisms for using donations to decrease carbon emissions. The donor can choose one of these pathways, or a combination. Any of these may be augmented by grants or other financing. The donor will have a say in which projects are desirable for their funds.

  1. Energy efficiency and solar projects for low-income housing. These donations will be used in outreach, training, equipment and materials to make a real difference in the energy efficiency of a home in a disadvantaged area, where they may be paying a large fraction of their income for heating, cooling and energy needs. They will be also used to install free solar on these homes, with no expectation of payback.

  2. Solar installs by our non-profit on churches, schools, non-profits, homes and businesses. We would apply for the 30% direct pay credit on these, to allow us to roll over more funds for future installs. If the donor approves, we would set up power purchase agreements for these, for repayment to allow additional rollover of funds to allow future solar installs.

  3. Unrestricted, allowing Norfolk Solar Solutions to use the funds for the area of greatest need at that time.

How will we work with investors?

Our board already has a track record of working with other investors to educate them in how to finance solar. We can show you how to install solar and get your money back, with a profit, in less than a dozen years. As a non-profit, we will continue to work with investors, to help them deploy their money in solar. As we have done before, we can work with an investor through the entire process: creating an LLC (if desired) and registering it with the IRS and SCC, developing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and contract with solar installer for a solar install on a site, purchasing the solar array and taking the credits on taxes, registering for income via Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs), billing the site for solar electricity production, and passing ownership to the site at the end of the PPA term.
